Mt. Milligan Project

Project Description

Phase 1 – Feasibility study for the installation of a network of conveyors and transfer chutes to transport copper concentrate from their existing rail car unloading system to a storage shed.

Phase 2- Comprehensive detailed design construction package for the concept produced in Phase 1. Sacré-Davey also designed the modifications to existing structures and foundations as well as the new transfer towers supporting the conveyors.

Scope of Work

Phase 1 - Sacré-Davey produced a number of concept designs. Option evaluation and value engineering was performed by the Sacré-Davey engineering team and the Sacré-Davey estimating group to provide the client with the appropriate information to select a concept and budget on which to proceed.

Phase 2 - Sacré-Davey completed the design of the conveyors, transfer chutes and transfer towers. In addition, Sacré-Davey developed the purchasing specifications and where applicable, performance specifications for the equipment purchased by Kinder Morgan.

Challenges

  • Installation in a Brownfield Operating Plant

  • Copper concentrate properties allowed for easy plugging

Solutions

  • Design of 3 new Transfer towers, new conveyor system and new transfer chutes to accommodate increased volumes of copper concentrate.

  • A custom design for the transfer chutes was developed eliminating clogged chutes and the associated downtime.

Achievements

  • Quality (few RFI’s)

  • Operates per design no plugging of the transfer points
