Sacré-Davey Engineering to Join Silicon Smelter Project Team

Sacré-Davey Engineering Inc. is pleased to announce that through our offices in British Columbia and Washington, we have been selected to work as part of the project team to design and build the most efficient silicon smelter in North America.

In conjunction with Italian company Tenova as the smelting technology provider, and Edmonton based Clark Builders as the general contractor, Sacré-Davey is providing balance of plant and integration engineering services to HiTest Silicon who are currently developing a silicon metal smelter project in the town of Newport, Washington.  This remarkable project will see collaboration amongst team members located in such diverse locations as Italy, Germany, South Africa, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Washington, Alberta and British Columbia.

The project is expected to increase economic diversity in the region and employ approximately 150 people once constructed.

Quartz will be mined from a facility in Golden, British Columbia and transported to the new facility in Newport for processing.   Once operational, the facility will manufacture 60,000 tons per year crushed silicon, headed largely for the solar panel market, thus supporting renewable energy throughout North America and globally.
