À la demande du client, Sacré-Davey a conçu un nouveau chargeur de navires portatif de 900 TPH capable de charger de nombreux types de navires dont un navire Gearbulk Génération 5. Le chargeur incorporait 3 systèmes de transport séparés, dont le convoyeur de queue, le convoyeur à flèche principal, une élinde télescopique de 28 pieds et une goulotte souple.

Pour la réalisation de ce projet, il a fallu apporter une modification au système de déchargement de wagons et de la zone de chargement. L’incorporation d’une étude PowerSmart réalisée par BC Hydro a permis d’optimiser les systèmes de pompes et de tuyauterie.

SDE3 a développé une technologie d’inter estérification qui concentrerait les acides gras insaturés de poids moléculaire élevé, sans perdre la structure naturelle de triglycéride.

SDE3 a mis en place et a mené des essais en laboratoire pour valider le processus et déterminer les paramètres de fonctionnement pour une opération à grande échelle commerciale. À la suite des essais en laboratoire, l’équipe a réalisé une estimation du capital pour l’installation du processus à bord d’un chalutier-usine qui avait été précédemment retiré du service.

L’usine de traitement d’huile mobile serait située à proximité des lieux de pêche de la mer de Béring pour permettre un traitement immédiat des produits à valeur ajoutée.

Installation portuaire de Kinder Morgan

Installation portuaire de Kinder Morgan

Usine de nanofibres minérales

GR International a retenu les services de SDE3 pour faire une mise à niveau de leur procédé de production de nanofibres minérales pour passer du stade de pilote à celui d’une production commerciale. Le procédé implique la production de deux familles différentes de produits nanofibres, chaque produit nécessitant un contrôle précis de la température, de la pression et des ingrédients dans un réacteur discontinu.

Avec ce projet, SDE3 a développé une simulation de masse et d’énergie du procédé pour produire chaque produit nanofibre. La simulation a été utilisée pour tester différents procédés et méthodes de production post-traitement pour chaque produit. De nombreux essais en laboratoire et à l’usine pilote ont été menés afin de déterminer l’échelonnabilité du processus, et fournir des données pour calibrer la simulation. Les modèles de simulation ont été effectués pour déterminer le profil, le mélange et les caractéristiques de transfert de chaleur du réacteur d’écran. Une conception de l’installation à grande échelle a été réalisée en utilisant un logiciel de modélisation de processus CAO 3D (conception assistée par ordinateur).

The recommendations included removing high pressure drop devices, changing the control system from a control valve to a variable frequency drive motor, and matching the pump speed to the system requirements. The energy reduction from 200 HP to 75 HP pump motors and control system changes projected a savings of 1,670 MWh/yr, substantial enough for significant BC Hydro PowerSmart funding.

Our design approach was to make the changeover with minimal disruption to production. The existing structural support steel was used and reinforced. The tank cells were covered with lids to contain the H2S gas, and a manifold connected with duct work to a new scrubber. The two conditioning tanks were raised and pump boxes and pumps were added to the floor level below the cells to pump concentrates to the thickeners.

Sacré-Davey worked with Sonic Environmental to scale up their PCB destruction process.  Sonic’s novel process recovered PCB’s from contaminated soil using mining technologies.  Sacré-Davey floated contaminates from the soil into a liquor, allowing clean soil to be returned.  The subsequent PCB-containing liquor was destroyed using Sonic’s proprietary Sono Process. Sacré-Davey provided all engineering, project management, and start-up services.

Sacré-Davey performed a study to remove the existing 350 HP pebble crushing units and replace them with larger 900 HP units, as well as examining the proposed installation of a dust collection system. A new maintenance building was proposed which will be attached to the existing pebble crusher building and will be designed to allow the existing overhead crane to roll through. A new lube area for the new crusher lube units as well as lube storage was proposed. A new MCC building was also proposed which will be located over the new lube area.

Sacré-Davey was contracted to provide mechanical, civil, and electrical design services, as well as construction management services, to several remote British Columbia locations. The work involved the conversion of diesel-fuelled emergency generators to propane and natural gas systems.  Strict new federal codes and standards on the design of liquid petroleum facilities made these propane and natural gas systems a clean and reliable alternative. Maintenance guides and overall project reports were provided to the client to facilitate the year-to-year maintenance of the facility.
